National Gallery spans an area of 690,000 sq ft across 2 iconic building with over 8000 pieces of artwork, making it the largest visual arts venue in Singapore and Southeast Asia. As the app for one of the most visited museums in Singapore, the primary usability issues identified were:

  • The method of providing information about current exhibitions and events is erratic and not user-friendly.

  • The navigation feature is inflexible and challenging to understand, lacking customization for the building's specific layout.

Field Observation

During our field observation at the Singapore National Gallery, we closely examined visitor behaviors and noted the exhibition's distinctive features. The main findings are:

  • Have to walk a lot to go from one place to another and need to sit and relax after viewing an exhibition.

  • Long galleries, don't have a single entry and exit, one room leads to the other.

  • National Gallery was promoting their new feature, the "Art Journey".
